    History Summary Of Lessons 71-74

This week I learned about four Inventions. they are condensed milk, the sleeping car, Toilet paper, and the washing machine. They were invented in the 1800s through the 1860s. They all served a different, but still important services, especially condensed milk due to it’s healing purposes.

Condensed milk is a better bacteria free type of milk that goes through a process in which it is made safe to drink. It was invented by Gail Borden in 1856. Gail Borden was born in New York in 1801. When he got older, he published a newspaper during the Texas revolution. His wife died of yellow fever in 1844. He witnessed children dying from drinking milk from a cow with yellow fever. He invented the condensed milk in 1856 to stop the dying.

The sleeping car is a part of a train in which you can sleep in. It was invented by George Pullman in 1865. Pullman was born in New York, in 1831. When he got older he went into business with is father in moving houses. He then put his engineering skills to the test in Chicago. Started to raise foundations in a swamp, and invented the sleeping car in 1865.

Toilet paper is a soft piece of paper, used to clean yourself after using the restroom. It was invented in 1857 by Joseph Gayetty. China invented many things, including toilet paper. People used different objects all around the world, for instance the Romans used a sponge on a stick, butt get this, they put it back for the next person. American colonists used shells and corncobs. Then Joseph invented toilet paper.

The washing machine is a machine used to clean soiled clothes. It was invented by Hamilton Smith in 1858. It was time consuming to wash clothes. people had to haul a lot of water to wash just a couple of clothes. Inventors started to focus on it in the early 1800s. The washboard and it steadily  grew in use. Then smith came and invented the washing machine.

These inventions were all great for the economy and helped us be more efficient. My favorite invention was definitely toilet paper because… its toilet paper.

This week I learned about four inventions. They were the jackhammer, the pin-tumbler-lock, the safety pin, and the gyroscope. These were all invented in the 1840s through the 1850s, and are used for either a job, or to keep something or someone safe.

The jackhammer is a high powered hammer drill that pulverizes hard surfaces by smashing them at over 20 times a second. It was invented by Johnathan Couch in 1848. Mining was important, but hazardous, and steam engines became integral. others started to create jackhammers, but john’s stood out as the best compared to their’s. this machine was a great idea for the construction district, and it really helped with the making of lots of buildings, especially ones made out of concrete.

The pin-tumbler-lock is a type of lock that was used to keep burglars from stealing from banks. it was invented by Linus Yale Sr. in 1843. Linus was born in Connecticut in 1797, and when he got to his 40s, he opened a lock shop, becoming the town lock smith. Although his story was short, he still made it so we can have the protection from burglars.

The safety pin is a needle that you can kinda just sheath, so it’s not so dangerous as it can be. It was invented by Walter Hunt in 1849. Walter was born in 1796 in New York. He then, when he got older, invented a version of the sewing machine in 1832. Before he could patent it he lost interest, but then he gained it again. Unfortunately, while lost his interest in it, another man stole the patent and got the credit. Then he decided to invent the safety pin to counter the man’s greed.

The gyroscope is tool that is spinning discs that are set in gimbals that provide stablity and can be used to maintain direction. It was invented in 1852 by Leon Foucualt. They were used more and more as the start of electricity and aircrafts. They are very popular in the consumer electronics used in satellites.

These inventions were great for people, and my favorite one has to be the gyroscope. They all were made a long time ago. say thanks to God for these inventors and inventions.

    History Summary Of Lessons 66-70

This week I learned about four inventions. They are the safety elevator, syringe, the Bessemer process, and the egg beater. These inventions came from the mid 1800s. They were innovations that improved lives and made everyday activities easier. Particularly, the Bessemer Process had wide-reaching uses that helped to transform our world.

The safety elevator was the first type of elevator that had a built in failsafe. It was invented by Elisha Otis in 1852. Otis was born in Vermont in 1811. When he was a man he got married and moved his family to a river. He built a grist mill, but it failed. Then he opened another business, but unfortunately, it also failed. His first real success was the safety elevator. It gave elevators a braking system that would catch the elevator in case of a failure in the pulley system.

The syringe is a medical tool used to inject something into your body. It was invented in 1853 by Alexander Wood. Alex was born in Scotland in 1817, and was trained in a classic curriculum. He then attained a medical degree at Edinburg, and used morphine to treat patients. He was inspired to invent the syringe by observing a bee’s stinger. It was able to heal more and more people and increased longevity.

The Bessemer process is the process in which pig iron, unusable iron, is converted to steal. It was invented by Henry Bessemer in 1855. He was born in England in 1813 and became a prolific inventor like his father. He became interested in weapons due to the Crimean War, and the king needed more steal for the weapons. Bessemer set out to make a process that would create more steal, and invented the bessemer process!… By accident.

The egg beater is a tool used in the kitchen to mix and beat eggs. It was invented in 1856 by Ralph Collier. Egyptians invented the oven, and grew from family labor to profession in Rome. Guilds rose and lasted through the middle ages, and Ralph decided to invent it to make it much easier to beat eggs.

These inventions were great for society making things easier, safer, and better. My favorite invention was the Bessemer Process. My favorite weapon is the sword, and everyone knows the best swords are made of steal!

    History Summary of Lessons 46-49

This week I learned about four inventions. They are the electric clock, blueprints, stapler, and the grain elevator. These were invented around the 1840s. The inventions I will talk about are really cool!

An electric clock is a clock that needs electricity to be able to work. It was invented by Alexander Bain in 1840. Bain was born in Scotland in 1811. He was apprenticed a clock maker, and then moved to London to sell his services. He learned of electromagnetism and was able to invent the electric clock in 1840. The problems he solved was you had to restart the old clock, once a day! There was a man who tried to swindle Bain out of his machine, and his name was Livingstone. He heard about this lovely invention, and tried to steal his idea to patent it. Luckily, Bain had already put a patent on it, and Livingstone’s reputation was shattered.

The blueprint is a piece of paper used to map out what a design looks like. It was invented by John Herschel in 1842. John was born in England in 1792. He published a book on science, and escaped South Africa. He then published drawings on plants, and got the idea to invent the blueprint from his pictures. Blueprints are a key part in the process of building that saves time and energy.

The stapler is a tool used to connect pages together by using staples to punch through pages. It was invented by Samuel Slocum in 1841. He was born in Rhode island, in 1792, and learned carpentry to move to London to make pins. He invented a machine to manufacture pins. He invented the stapler in 1841 to create a better solution.

The grain elevator is a machine that elevates grain into silos. It was invented by Joseph Dart in 1842. He was born in Connecticut in 1799 and started by trading furs with the traveling Indians. He then moved to buffalo I live in Rochester which is very close to buffalo, to trade grain. He partnered with Robert Dunbar to invent the grain elevator. It saved money time and energy.

These inventions were very helpful to human kind’s cause. The electric clock and stapler were great examples of improvement on already existing technology. The blueprints and grain elevator were great examples of problems that were solved. My favorite invention that I learned about was the blueprint because I’m a big fan of building!

    History Summary Of Lessons 51-54

This week I learned about four inventions. they are ether, the fax machine, iron steam passenger ships, and the ice cream maker. Each of these inventions were invented in the 1850s. They have something in common with each other. That is that one two of them are made for enjoyment, and the others are for better quality.

Ether was a type of drug used to make the user fall asleep. It was improved on by Crawford Long in 1842. Long was born in Georgia in 1815. When he got older, he trained to be a doctor, and moved to a different place in Georgia. Long noted the effects of ether on other people, and in 1842, he used it as an anesthetic. It signaled a pain free surgery, but had side effects, like getting sick after having it.

The fax machine was a machine that scans and reproduces documents. It was invented by Alexander Bain in 1843. Bain was born in 1811, and is apprenticed to a clock maker. He moves to London. Then he learns of the electromagnetic field theory, to combine clock making and electricity, to invent the fax machine. Although it was largely replaced by the modern printer, without it we would not have been able to invent it.

Iron steam passenger ships are a type of gigantic vessel that is used to transport cargo to other continents, countries, states, and places. It was invented by Ismbard Brunel in 1843. Brunel was also the inventor of the propellor, and used it in his ship. He was born in 1806, and was taught by his father. He was apprenticed to a clock maker, and assisted his father, Mark, with the thames tunnel. Brunel he built bridges and the great western railroad, but wanted to add ships. He then invented the iron steam passenger ship. It is one of the biggest ships on earth, and can cary 100s of 1000s of tons of cargo on its hull.

The ice cream maker is what produces the famous ice cream. It was invented by Nacy Johnson in 1843. Making ice cream was a laborious task, and you had to scrape the sides, insides, and all of the left overs. Nacy then invented the hand cranked ice cream maker.

These inventions helped us have a better, more quality, and good day.

This week I learned about four inventions. They are the rotary printing press, kerosene, antiseptics and the gas mask. These inventions were created around the 1840s, and the funniest part of it is that three of the inventions were created in the same year, 1847.

The rotary printing press was a more efficient Gluten Burg printing press, that would stamp ink into the paper and do it again in a rotation motion. It was invented by Richard Hoe in 1843. Hoe was born in 1812 in New York. His father died and Hoe inherited his printing press company. Hoe knew that he must upgrade it, because it took one man 12hrs. to finish one page! Hoe proceeded to invent the rotary printing press. Although his story was short, he paved way to the modern printer today.

Kerosene is a thicker more dense gasoline, used in jets and some cars. It was invented by Abraham Pineo Gesner in 1846.  Abraham was born in 1797 in Canada. When he was a older he moved to England to become a doctor. He became interested in geology after meeting  Charles Lyell. He went back to Canada to study geology and medicine. He then invented kerosene. Kerosene was very vital and good thing for the jet industry, and it helped in cold wether.

antiseptics, are chemicals used to kill germs. It was invented by Ignaz Semmelweis in 1847. Semmelweis was born in 1818, and in his 20s, he went into obstetrics. He worked for Vienna General Hospital. He decided to fix the problem of the two clinics. He started observing and recording the surgeries, and had a Eureka moment after observing his friends death, due to severe bacterial infection. He then proceeded to invent antiseptics. It really lowered the rate of death, and helped with scare free surgeries.

The gas mask is a type of mask that filters out the bad gas from the air, and makes it so you can breathe. It was invented by Lewis P Haslett in 1847. We do not know when he was born, but my research suggests he was born in Kentucky. He grew up and invented the gas mask for coal miners because they had to breathe in toxic coal dust. It’s actually used in a lot of different things, like fire fighting, mining, and to train the military.

Out of all of these inventions, the gas mask is the coolest to me. It’s because I like the purpose they serve. Each of these inventions came from long ago, where people didn’t have much, so lets give thanks to God for getting us here today.

This week I learned about four inventions. The are the steel plow, steam shovel, postage stamp, and vulcanized rubber. These inventions were invented in the 1830s.

The steel plow was a version of the heavy plow that never gave way to rust because it was made of steel. It was Invented by John Deere in 1837. John Deere was born in Vermont in 1804. He went to a congregationalist college to learn how to be a black smith. He became a town blacksmith in 1825. In his studies, he noticed polished and brand new plows worked much better than rusty plows and old plows, so he invented the steel plow to fix the problem in 1837. Not only did it fix the problem, it was so beneficial, that his name is the title of the company that produces the most tractors around the globe.

The steam shovel is a excavator that runs on steam. It was invented by William Smith Odis in 1835. Odis was born in Pelham in 1813, and was fascinated with mechanical inventions. He invented the steam shovel at the age of 22. It was a huge improvement to the excavation industry, and his changes will be remembered.

The postage stamp is a piece of paper stick onto an envelope, to send to someone anywhere around the wold. It was invented by Rowland Hill in 1838. Hill was born in England in 1795, and had influential family friends. He promoted Priestly’s educational reform and then proceeded to invent the postage stamp. It was very beneficial to the letter sending industry because now people could identify where a letter was going.

Vulcanized rubber is a type of weather proof rubber that make up 99% of all rubber in tires. It was invented by Charles Goodyear in 1839. He was born in 1800 in Connecticut, and had in entrepreneurial mind. He improved a company’s rubber life savors, and was determined to fix a rubber problem. The problem was, the type of rubber he used was sticky, and would melt. One day he was testing it, and he dropped the rubber on a hot stove. He noticed it lost its sticky nature, and added the chemicals to invent vulcanized rubber. Unfortunately, he died 4 years after, at the age of 26. although He wasn’t able to see his invention reach its peek, he still invented the most popular tire rubber.

These inventors were very helpful to our cause because they invented these inventions.

What Was the Best Birthday Present I’ve Ever Had

The best birthday present I’ve ever received, are my geckos. There names are Spot, Axel, and Benjamin, and have brought me the most joy out of all the presents i’ve ever received. Axel is really funny and small, and he is usually a lone wolf. Spot is best friends with Benjamin, always near him, except at night, and has always been wanting to adventure my room. Benjamin is pretty stationary, in his little house hide, a hide is a thing they hide in or under, and is always hungry for crickets and Zophobas Morio or super worms. These geckos are awesome!

Who is the influential person in my life and why?

The most influential person in my life is Jesus. Jesus has almost always answered my prayers, and if he has not, it was for good reason. Jesus is my lord and savior, and I believe he died for me and everyone in this world. I guarantee you right now he’s working wonders for someone. He won’t hesitate to save us while we often do hesitate. and he is perfect in every way, while we are not. He deserves our respect in this life and the rest.

    History Summary Lessons 36-40

This week I learned about four inventions. the are the electromechanical relay, The revolver, morse code, and the circuit breaker. Each of these inventions were invented around the same period, the 1830s.

The electromechanical relay was a tool used for turning on and off something. It was invented by Joseph Henry in 1835. Joseph Henry was born in New York and had an interest in science. He then invented the multi coil magnet, the key component in the multi coil magnet was used in the electromechanical relay. He was inspired by his own instrument to invent it. He was sent to a boarding school, but was kicked out after starting a fire with one of his experiments. He then invented the electromechanical relay.

The revolver is a type of handgun that was able to shoot 6 accurate, powerful bullets. It was invented by Samuel colt, my favorite inventor, in 1835. Samuel was born in Connecticut and also had an interest in science. He went to a school but was kicked out for starting a fire for one experiment of his went wrong. He went to learn how to sail, but instead was inspired by a steering wheel to invented the revolver.

Morse code is a code that encodes the alphabet into a series of dots and dashes. It was invented by Samuel Morse in 1836. Morse was born in Massachusetts and had a fascination with painting, and was convinced by a very popular painting specialist. he became a painter. One day he got a letter from his father that his wife was recovering from an illness, but the next she was dead! Morse decided that there had to be a better way to communicate with other people faster. He then invented morse code.

The circuit breaker is a tool that protects cables from short circuit damage. It was invented by Charles Grafton Page in 1836. Charles was born in Massachusetts and was  fascinated with electricity as a child. He then studied electromagnetism, to one day invent the      circuit breaker.

These inventors spent there lives making things easier to use. They created or started the technology and intelligence we have today
